27 Aug 2012

IRVINE, Calif.– Blockade Medical announced today the first patients have been treated with the Barricade Coil System. Patients treated with the Barricade Coil System presented with diverse cerebral aneurysms. All patients were successfully treated by Dr. Istvan Szikora, Chief of Interventional Neuroradiology at the National Institute for Neurosciences in Budapest, Hungary.

Blockade Medical’s Chief Executive Officer Gibb Clarke said, “Today marks a significant milestone for Blockade Medical and an important strategic step for the company, as we work to expand our product offerings to the neurovascular market. We are pleased with the exceptional performance of the Barricade Coil System. The clinical outcome was positive for all patients treated. We look forward to full market commercialization in regions that recognize the CE Mark, officially, we plan to launch The Barricade Coil System at the ESMINT Congress from September 6-8, 2012 in Nice, France.”

When discussing his clinical experiences with the Barricade Coil System, Dr. Szikora commented that “a total of 5 broad neck aneurysms were treated using the Barricade Coil System either exclusively or in combination with other commercially available products. Various aneurysm morphologies were treated which ranged from a 5mm un-ruptured aneurysm to a 20mm ruptured lesion. The Barricade coils performed well in those cases in which balloon remodeling was planned and carried out as well as in those in which balloon assistance was thought unnecessary. The Barricade coils allowed for sufficient aneurysm packing without significant micro catheter instability and with no complications in all cases.”
